Architect's Bookshelf

I generally find that books in IT Architecture have a bad name. This always puzzles we. Personally I read quite a few books that I find are relevant to my day to day work; and most are valuable.

However going into a meeting talking about a new way of tackling a problem 'that I read in this book' somehow doesn't seem to have the intended effect. Surely referring to detailed guidance from a reputable source, such as the SEI, would make people sit and listen. More often and not they look at you in bewilderment.

I have a feeling that this is due to the effect of the piles of, often poor, management/leadership/guru/get-rich-quick books that fill the shelves. Their poor record seems to have tainted many people's views of books as a source of valuable insight. This often also stretches to budget holders who are willing to spend £5000 on a course but not £50 on a book.

Anyway, the point of this section of the site is to help you find books that are really useful. I'm going to focus on books that I have personally used, although I would be willing to include reviews from others.
